SHINE camp

In the midst of our busy schedules and projects, we signed up for an activity called the "SHINE Discovery Session", where my family- Clap had an enjoyable time near nature (?), away from our usual busy lives.

I'm not going to elaborate much on the activities there, all in all I ended up in a group called Fantastic 4 with Gynie, Angela and Natalie. Basically we were still frequency even at SHINE.

So, some of the activities there actually made me put my Girl Guide knowledge into use, I guess it isn't a waste of those 5 years in high school putting up with camps and ridiculous log files. I think that I can say that some of the girl guide knowledge is important in life, applying them in some of the activities here in SHINE.

But this isn't really the main point of the camp, the main point was, we all had fun and got to know each other better. It was then we started to grow closer through midnight games FNBE// project discussions :)

We were really close as a family at that point of time, we need more outings// getaways// non-stressful times like this in the future.

This could be considered as our Clap's first outing. I personally think that we had the most fun and enjoyable time in the water// river. The only hyped people around were us, those mainly from FNBE. I'm not sure if it was due to the stress level or our natural hyped personalities which brought out the insane water splashing session.

I bet that we were all labeled jerks and assholes after the river session because we sneaked up on those (quite) dry people who were just standing in the river getting ready to take a photo and splashed water all over them. And this was how the whole river turned chaotic- water splashing, crazy waves, etc.

Though there were a few incidents of lost spectacles and such, we still had the best time ever in the river!

After river session

Honestly, I did try the river water (when it was still clean), honestly, it does taste refreshing!

So we had an outdoor cooking session after having fun in the river which used to be my favourite part of camp in the past. Last time, I used to work with people I knew well so as a group leader (which was part of the tests I once had), I was able to identify and distribute jobs to each one of them according to their strength.

However, it is different when it comes to camps like this because we don't know each other that well. Apart from our friends from the same course, we are practically strangers to one another. This is where true leadership and trust comes in place. Leaders give instruction, accept suggestions and they are the deciding factor of the team. When a group is hesitant, the group leader stands out to lead and solve each problem democratically without upsetting any members.

As group members, you have to trust your leader, and likewise, the leader has to trust his group members. Trust is important because no one can complete anything on their own without teamwork. But how do you work with each other by distributing work without knowing your team members well? You trust in the words they say, and allow them to do it based on their abilities.

I think that students should participate in camps like this more often because such camps will open your horizon and perspectives to different issues socially. When it comes to people-people situations, the best you can do it either sit back, analyze the situation and act, or listen to opinions, give suggestions and follow orders. One way or another, we still need to work with people, strangers and maybe enemies in our daily lives.

Food preparation with given ingredients and kitchen utensils

This was where I had my fire starting skills put into good use, for once!
One of the facilitators there actually called me a "kampung girl" but in reality, I'm actually a city girl who grew up with no hometown.

After our cooking session and lunch, we went back into the river to enjoy it for the last time before heading out of the forest.

Huge butterflies! <3

This marks the end of our 3D2N SHINE camp, and there we go, back to the city busy architecture// FNBE lives of ours.

A very funny and weird photo of me on the firefox! HAHA

And this ends our SHINE session

Sometimes, we don't need theme parks, roller coasters, holidays and trips to be happy, as long as you have your beloved family alongside with you, anywhere, everything, wherever leads to a jar full of happiness and long lasting memories!
